I recently revisited the MYST series of video games, as well as the one-two punch that is ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, and it’s pretty clear that my love of puzzles has been rekindled like a bonfire.
But the fact is that I suck at coming up with good puzzles for a tabletop roleplaying game. Tabletop RPGs have an awful lot of things they must balance against and trade off when it comes to inserting puzzles, because not everyone approaches puzzles the same way; frankly, there’s a lot of players that want puzzles left to the video games, thankyaverymuch.
So, allow me to collect and maintain a giant list of links that provide oodles of examples of puzzles, the how to’s and why for’s for building puzzles and complex traps in roleplaying games, and even some more theoretical works outside of the RPG world, as inspiration if nothing else.
